What's Not Said is the debut novel of Valerie Taylor. It's a
very realistic take on love, marriage, and everything in between. First, meet
Kassie, a marketing executive, who has a lot going on in her life, a lot of
stress. Then we meet Mike, the husband. Finally, there's Chris, the lover.
Kassie and Mike met in college, the whole student-teacher affair happening, that
eventually turned into something more. They get married and have been for a few
decades. Like most marriages, the honeymoon phase don't last forever. Mike is
controlling and emotionally abusive, and Kassie has spent most of their marriage
being Mike's puppet. She takes a vacation alone and meets Chris. Chris is
everything Mike isn't; kind, thoughtful, and attentive. Kassie eats up all that
Chris has to offer and begins this distant love affair while still married to
Mike. She's been contemplating divorce, but something gets in the way, and
divorce gets put on the back burner. Chris relocates to Boston, and that
motivates her to go on and go through with the divorce. Mikes falls ill, and his
health condition comes to light putting yet another hold on Kassie and her
journey to divorce. Kassie doesn't want to bring it to him, while he's not in a
good state mentally or physically. She expresses to Chris that she feels
betrayed and is angry that he would keep that from her and wonder what else he
may be hiding, what else has been left unsaid. Which is funny considering she's
been committing adultery and keeping it a secret from her husband, the irony.
The novel is told from all three of the main characters' perspectives, which I
enjoy. You get a small insight into how they see things, where their minds are,
and get a feel of the characters themselves. It's a slow burn, but the slow pace
is for the reader to understand the back story and why things got to the point
in which it's at. What's not said is about the things we don't share, the lies
we've told, and learning that communication is always best.

My daughter, who is now six years old, has been going through behavioral issues since head-start. When she got to pre-K, she got kicked out after six months. Last school year, she got suspended from school, and by the end of that school year, she got kicked out of her daycare for good. She is brilliant, and she is a sweet kid but has behavioral issues, attention-seeking.
I got to thinking about how I could break her out of her bad habits when I can't even cut my own. I have a troubled past and childhood that has left me a little angry (a lot ). I have a terrible temper ( which has improved, in my opinion ) and slight anger issues. I don't always make the best decisions when I am a little rattled. I have never shown it towards my kids ( I don't want them to experience what I did), which led me to be a little more than lenient in my discipline. However, they have seen me, and mom got at it, seen me get upset with others, and handle situations in an unfitting way. I take full responsibility for how my kids deal with certain circumstances because even though I try and teach them the correct way, most kids go by what they see.
That is why I was happy when I received this book in the mail. Raising the Challenging Child is excellent for parents who lack the knowledge on how to properly communicate with their child or the best way to get through to them. All lessons stem from real situations and alternatives on how to handle it better next time. The authors offer tips throughout the book. Here are some of my favorites tips:
Find ways to give your child more simple choices (red or blue, now or after breakfast) throughout the day. Choices=deposits. (pg. 21)
Avoid questions that can be answered with a no. (pg. 64)
Don't flood your child with consequences.
Help your child feel valued. Emotional safety is just as important as physical safety. (pg. 82)
Raising the Challenging child has helped me with communicating with my kids better and getting through to my sweet little trouble maker. I highly recommend this book.

Really, they wanted to raise another Alison.” Alison Thomas 18, the star of the novel. The all-around, All-American daughter. Claire Thomas 7, shy, odd, and the younger sister. Some would say the sisters seemed close and that may be true, to some extent. In reality, Claire despised Alison as much as she adored her; even in her adolescent years to come long after Alison's passing. Saint X. Saint X is an island the Thomas family inhabits for winter break. A family vacation soon turns into a family tragedy. Alison, 18, goes missing and found dead a while later. It’s Alison’s death where the story really begins. As the tragedy sinks in and the family returns home to New York, they come to realize they can no longer stay there. They eventually pack up and move to California and there Claire begins her new life and her new role as Emily (Claire Emily Thomas). Claire spends her life trying to find herself (it seems) and run from the life she once knew; or the life she thinks her parents wanted for her sister. She moves back to New York. She lives in questionable places all throughout her twenties in New York. Even though she can afford the best of the best through her parents, she lives in "lower class" areas. She runs into one of the boys from the island, Clive, and this sparks back up her hunt for the truth.

When we dive back into the past and hunt for the answers we think we want, what are we really discovering? Alison was a beautiful, spoiled, straight A’d, privileged teenager looking for a thrill. She loved her life and the luxuries that came with it, but she wanted to experience the island life and culture. She wanted to be a part of something that money and privilege can’t buy. She ended up looking for a thrill that became her last. Claire has always adored, but resented her carefree, reckless, and “perfect” sister. With the eleven year age difference, she had big shoes to fill. It’s hard enough to meet the expectation of a living individual, but even harder when that person has been dead for quite some time. When Claire runs into Clive, randomly one night, in New York; it re-sparks her obsession with finding out what really happened that night on Saint X, the night her sister died. She doesn't find out the truth, at least not the whole truth. She still discovered something; her mother wasn't a pushover, her sister wasn't a saint, and she even discovered who she was. She discovered that something a better laid to rest and remain rested. No need to re-dig up what's already buried. I give this novel a 4 out of 5 stars. It was a good and entertaining read, but it lacked momentum for me. This was more slow-burn than the fast-paced I had hoped it to be. I still would recommend this book for you all to read. I am on a “Road to Positivity” journey and I have been on this journey for like two years, I have yet to succeed. Now many factors are to blame why I am having trouble with this journey of mines, but I will be mature and take the blame. See, that’s growth, I think I’m doing well.
Some things I would like to work on during this journey is my attitude, organization, and health. My attitude is a conversation and a prayer for another day. We ain’t even going to breach that subject, not today. I will say I am a work in progress, I came a long way, and I still have a loooong way to go. As my grandmother used to say “he ain’t done with you yet” and we will leave it at that.
Organization. I am a very unorganized individual. I am a procrastinator. The best way to describe me is ADHD or ADD mixed with OCD. I take on more things than I can handle and I forget about them, most of the time. My bills, for example, if they do not come out automatically more than likely I won’t remember to pay or it will be late. I get sent a lot of book ARCS. I will accept an ARC and forget I have like 3 ARC reviews due the same week as the one I just accepted. I forget and lose track of time, a lot. I have multiple planners, but no real organization in my planners. I want to be more of a planner and have fun while doing it, because if it does not hold my attention I won’t be consistent. I lack consistency.
I created a DIY tracker for my bills and for my ARCS. Starting in October I want to be more productive and get my life (and my kid’s life) on the right track that will make everything a little easier. I created a bill tracker to remind me when each bill is due during the month and I made a book tracker for October, where I will track when all the ARCS for that month are due. As far as my health go, I want to exercise more. I want to be to keep track of my weight each month. My goal for 2020 is to lose twenty pounds, leave sodas alone, and to eat healthier. I created a weight tracker for 2020 that will allow me to write how much I weigh at the end of each month, and that will help me know if I am losing or gaining any weight. I also created a step tracker page for October. I plan to keep track of how many steps I took by the end of the night to motivate me to aim higher for the next day. The have made my life a little easier and made it more fun to plan. I want to credit Heather Kell over at KellOfaPlan for her inspirational videos. She has made planning more fun for me and has shown the world all the wonderful ways you can use a planner which is where my DIY ideas came from.

As many of you may know, I love books. Reading was always my first love, and it was a thing between my father and I. He would always take me to a bookstore and let me get as many books as my heart desired. Fun Fact: He introduced me to Harry Potter by buying me the Sorcerer’s Stone VHS thinking I would like it, I loved it. My point is he is the reason I love to read. I got Maya Hughes’ “The Second We Met” book in the mail and I could not be more excited. I opened the package and squealed like a little kid, hell, I even smelled the pages. This book will really hit home for those of us who were born and raised in the South and even more so for those who come from dysfunctional families. Lis Anna-Langston writes a novel that is happening in most households then and now. It's rare to find a book that you not only enjoy, but you can connect to. It's a hard life when you are forced to grow up before your time or some days you don't feel safe in a place that is meant to serve as protection. It becomes a scary world for a child and that can sometimes have a damaging effect on how the child sees the world.
She takes us on a journey and we get to see the world through her eyes; and what a journey it is. If you love Southern Fiction or books centered on families, then I would definitely recommend this book to you.

I don’t think you all understand how damn happy I was when I received this book in the mail, can you say ecstatic? I read about it online and had the chance of signing up and requesting an ARC for the book; and just as the fates would have it, I got it. Lately I have been getting a lot of ARCs in the mail, so hopefully I will have more content coming up soon.
This book isn’t a how-to-guide, or a this is what worked for me, so maybe it will work for you type of book. Each woman in this book has a different, yet similar experience about their journey to working independently from home. They express their concerns, the pros, and the cons. The one common denominator they all had was in the advice that they shared. The work will be hard, the results won’t come right away, but it’s all worth it in the end.
This book is a list of testimonials from a few women who have had success in leaving their 9-5s behind to pursue a bigger purpose. We all want to leave an impact on this world and we all want to make a name for ourselves. These women are mothers, daughters, friends, and leaders; who come from all walks of life, but with similar stories and passions. So far this book has been a fantastic read.
The only issue I had was the fact that the book isn’t completely organized. These women all come from different places in the world and have had different experiences. The only thing that truly connects them together is the fact that they all left work to work independently. The essays of these women felt rushed, to me.
While I loved reading each of their stories; I would have loved it more if it was one woman sharing her story. One woman reliving the experience all over again so we (the readers) can visualize and understand the transition between working for someone else and working for yourself.
The book is set to be released in October of this year and I received this copy for free in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I admired that even though Harper was rebellious; she wanted something different for her sister, Alex. The story is a tad bit repetitive of how Harper had her innocence took and no one believed her, so she lashed out and became the girl everyone believed her to be.
I felt sorry for the dad all he wanted to do was to keep his daughter safe and to keep history from repeating itself. The guilt of his late sister still affects him and his father all throughout the book.
I enjoyed seeing the grandfather get a second chance with Harper. I won't go too much into detail, but this hit home in a lot of ways. I definitely recommend this book.

Lately I have been going on a rant about RH and bully love stories. They have all been so repetitive, until now. This book blew me the freak away. It was sexy; it was daring, and it kept your attention. I love all the characters in the book, but as always in RHs I have a favorite. Aria is a great female lead. She has endured a lot in her life and all she wants is an opportunity to better herself. She gets accepted into a program by the state to attend a prestigious high school with great connections. It would mean college, a good job, better yet a future for Aria. There she befriends another student, Sierra, who is in a similar predicament such as herself. Sierra is more shy and timid, where Aria is not. That is where the boys come in.
Blaze, Jed, and Thor. The kings, the heirs, and the owners of the entire town. The richest of the rich, the powerful-est of the powerful, and the most arrogant. The torment and abuse the girls from the state program. They make sure you know that you don’t belong. Aria is the only one who has ever stood up to them. She fights back with the same ammo they try to use on her and the sexual tension is at an all-time high. Her goal is to steal their hearts and split the trio apart. Her plan almost worked, but she got to greedy and she made a mistake.
I am so ready for book two. This is what was missing in the other books. There is no heir returning home, there is no damsel in distress, or falling for her tormentors. Well, she does kind of fall for them, but she keeps her head in the game long enough to pull through and not fall completely for their bull crap. I have never been so excited for a sequel as I am for this one.
If you can get pass the poor editing, then you will love this book.
This book, this damn book... I was not ready; I wasn't ready at all.
The book discusses some heavy issues that most teens are going through in real life; depression, trauma, death, divorce or splitting, jail, abandonment, abuse, and neglect. Trying to deal, forget, numb, or heal from the pain can be hard; coping is never easy. All it takes is someone willing to listen or someone willing to care to make a difference in a person's life.
Peyton is an amazing character. She has been dealt with some of the hardest hands in life, but she played the game to the best of her abilities. She can still love and be selfless. All she wants is someone to love and want her. What I love most about her is even at her lowest she still refused to fall, she kept going.
Grandpa Delaney. I love this man. He is trying to right a wrong that his children have made. I feel he has limited time left, and he is trying to make sure that the granddaughter he never knew is cared for before his time runs out. He knows he can't fill the hole his son left in her, but he is hoping to show her that someone cares.
The boys: Loch, Paxton, Golden, Kyle, Crew, and Zane. These six men have come in and took all of us by surprise, a pleasant surprise. They are just as vulnerable as Peyton and just as strong. With RH series, I try not to have a favorite, but I always end up with one. I have two with this series, Kyle and Crew.
In each other, they have found a love so pure and a bond so strong. In each other, they have found another reason to live and another reason to fight. This book was so well done. I cannot wait for book 2.
I am reading “Again, But Better” by Christine Riccio and it has inspired me to write this blog post. What would you do if you had a second chance? What would you do if you could do it again, but better?
I have read the first chapter of the book and oddly enough, as simple as it was, it was also powerful. The message was clear. We go through life wasting precious moments, taking moments for granted, screwing up, not screwing up enough, living too much, not living enough, or whatever the case may be. We spend life worrying why we aren’t as ahead as those in our age range or why someone older hasn’t got life figured out yet. We hide behind our insecurities, our fears, and our anxieties. Here I am trying to figure out what I hid behind or what would I do again, but better?
The answer for me is simple, college. I would do college again, but better. I would go to the physical school instead of attending an online institution. I would get out and meet people, go to class, join clubs, and just live a life a normal twenty-something should live. I then may have finished my B.S. degree instead of my school losing its accreditation and I get stuck with 97 credits that don‘t count anymore. Maybe then I would not be sitting here thinking what does this mean for me now and where do I go from here. Yes, I would definitely do college again, but better.
Another thing I would do again, but better would be my first job. I always say if I knew then what I knew now, I‘d be rich. I got my first job at fifteen and the job paid weekly for the first three years, every Wednesday. I lived in a college town and most of the people who worked there were college age. So when the summer rolled around either they went home or didn’t want to work, but party instead. I picked up shifts, double shifts, and even open-to-close shifts almost every summer and winter break. My checks would be between $500-600 a week and I blew every single penny. I spent my money on junk, junk, and more junk. What I would do again, but better would be to put two of the four checks I got a month into a savings account. I could have been sitting on $36K (well definitely more since this thirteen years ago) in my bank account.

I feel like many people will not like what I have to say in this blog and that is ok. My opinions are my own and I am not trying to force them on anyone else, but this is a topic I need to rant about. So without further ado, here we go.
The young adult genre is losing its appeal for me, specially reverse harems. Lately, every book I read is the same. The story line is borderline identical. The books are great and I love reading them and I love the authors, but what I don’t love to read is a different version of the same story repeatedly. Amazon Kindle has a lot of up-and-coming books available for pre-order similar in title, and the story line is almost a carbon-copy of another book.
The reverse harem bully stories are getting a tad bit out of hand. Book after book I am reading the same thing over and repeatedly and it’s sickening. The books are great reads and highly addictive, but again I have read it a thousand times before. Three to four guys are the kings of their school and/or town. A new girl moves in and has a run in with the kings/bad boys. They are hell bent on tormenting and turning the whole school against the girl. Suddenly something happens and they accept the new girl into their circle and guess the fuck what she eagerly joins. It‘s the eagerness that really puts me off. They have all but killed you for months on end and suddenly they want to place nice and you fall in line, the fuck? Oh, it gets better. Most of the time, the niceness is an act or a lead up for the big guns.
Reverse harem bully stories are addictive. They have become my guilty pleasure and they remind you of trashy reality tv; it‘s so bad it’s good. Here a few books by authors I absolutely love that are great reads, but damn near identical storylines.
These books have been amazing reads, and I have fallen for most of the characters. I just don't like how all three books have almost identical storylines. Callie Rose and Tate James are new authors for me and I love their style, it's just this someone has told this story many times before. Jaymon Eve and C.M. Stunich are authors I know and love and their artistry shows in everything they right, but again I have heard this story before.
I guess what I am trying to say is for reverse harem can we get a little more creative. I am sure there are a ton of ways to do an RH book without the typical bully/prep school line. On that note, this is just my opinion, until next time...
I went thrift shopping the other day for some new books. I don’t know if it is just me or not, but I have these need to buy books, like all the time. I got around twenty books for under $10, not bad, not bad at all. I only wanted to look for my next read, so getting twenty books was never in the plan. So now I have these titles and no clue what I want to read next because I want to read them all. I searched on google for a virtual pick a name from a hat tool and this is what I found.
Random Name Picker is an online tool that lets you type in some choices and they will randomly pick an item on the list. I typed all the titles I was having an issue choosing between in the box and pressed the “pick a random name” button. I pressed the button three times to come up with different names. The generator has spoken and I am excited to be reading books I have not read, but have wanted to read for a while, and here they are.
Two of the three books I have seen the movie for and loved it. The Notebook and The Da Vinci Code are movies I only watched once or twice but still very much think about all the time. I am the type that hates watching a movie or tv show before reading the book. I can’t get the full story if I haven’t read the book first, because a lot of times they cut out or change moments into something else for better ratings. I freaked when I realized both movies was a book and I freaked, even more,e when I find out that the majority of Nicholas Sparks books I have watched but never read. So for May I am pretty excited to knock these two books off of my TBR List.
I have heard a lot of great things and read a lot of four stars or higher reviews on Fredrik Backman’s books. I have Britt-Marie Was Here, Bear Town, A Man Called Ove, and My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She‘s Sorry in my Kindle. I still plan on buying physical copies for all four books and eventually owning all of his work if I like Britt-Marie Was Here. I will definitely blog about each book and discussing my thoughts and scenarios that take place, probably chapter by chapter. After those, I plan on starting my yearly re-read of Harry Potter and for the first time blog my journey of all seven books.

OMG!!! I am so excited about the release of this book. May 28th cannot get here fast enough. If you have not read book one, I highly recommend that you go and download Amazon Kindle: Boys of Brayshaw High by Meagan Brandy. The book leaves off on a cliffhanger and I am dying to find out what happens next. I have a full review of book one here on my blog. Please read this book, I promise you won't be disappointed.
I had no idea that when I started this book, I would fall head over heels in love with the characters the way that I did. From the Brayshaw brothers, right down to Raven, I was captured and enamored by them.
I will say Raven pissed me off on several occasions throughout the whole book, her stubbornness and recklessness were as irritating as it was understandable. The four of them fit well, like a perfectly layered PB&J sandwich. The only thing stopping them from completely sealing the deal is the fact that the boys grew up with something Raven has never known and doesn't know how to perceive it. The boys grew up knowing love and loyalty, they have always had each other to rely on, Raven grew up fending for herself. While I can understand why she reacted in certain situations, the frustration is still just as intense. She needs to come to terms and accept that what she wants is love, security, trust, and a solid foundation; she needs to let go of her fear and allow what the Brayshaw brothers are trying to offer her, it's just as hard for them as it is for her.
I will say of the three brothers Royce is my favorite. I love and adore all brothers, and I do agree with the Maddoc and Raven pairing, but Royce is my absolute favorite brother/character. Great job Meagan, on creating such strong, independent; yet vulnerable characters.
